Name of church: Healing Place Church
City: Baton Rouge

What's the worship music like? (Contemporary, hymns, long, fast, loud etc?): Contempohip, long, loud, fast, rockin but no Booty God Booty. All God here!
What's the speaking like? (Old school Bible, culturally relevant, by video etc?):relevent, current, from the bible, we do believe in the gifts of tongues
What's the childcare like?: they pay the childcare workers and usually I am very satisfied
What's your favorite thing?: I am accepted as I am and have yet to be kicked out
What would you change?:it is mostly white. Like 55% and I love color so I would add more red and yellow, black and white.
Can I wear jeans?:jeans, shorts, flip flops, crocs, I even wore an AC/DC shirt once. Not that it went over well, but I was not asked to leave. OH! And one time I bet my husband $20 he would not wear this fake nose ring (picture a bull's nose ring) to church and he did it! Got some strange looks but just a few.
I just want to add to Daphne's description of Healing Place Church... We also have 6 campuses each have a different culture but the same Healing Place Church thread or as we call it DNA. The campuses are Highland Campus, the largest and yes coming early is recommended because of traffic and seats, Annex campus, which is our video campus and very casual and has a cafe in the santuary, St. Francisville campus, this is a little further and yes it is country but great meets in a very beautiful school gym, Donaldsonville campus, D'Ville is our soul campus I love it here too, Winbourne Dream Center Campus, very new only a month or two old and reaches out to the lost and forgotten powerful services, then last in the LA area is St. Amant campus, this campus is two campuses in one we have English services and Spanish services and I am partial because I serve here I love it you don't have to worry about parking as of right now but it is growing and we serve coffee at breaks and on Sunday for 8am there are free muffins and fruit.

What's the worship music like? Hymns and organs; the choir director occasionally breaks out the down-and-dirty gospel, which is awesome.
What's the speaking like? Mainline Protestant no-frills sermonizing
What's the childcare like? Two super-nice college students who like to love on kids, and more educational-style "Children's Church" for school-age kids. None of it is professional or fancy.
What's your favorite thing? We're just starting a transformation process, and it's a very rocky start but completely awesome. If you like loving old folks and helping them get excited about Jesus this is the place to do it.
What would you change? Folks don't know how to talk about Jesus and go deep with God yet, which is on the road to changing.
Can I wear jeans? I do it every Sunday and nobody minds. Mainline as it is, it ain't stuffy; the folks are real open and generous.

What's the worship music like?Blended, we have the right mix of old hymns and contemporary music. We have some great musicians
it's almost an orcastra now.Our worship leader has energy and is worshiping with us,it is amazing how you feel God's presence during that time!!
What's the speaking like? Alway's relevent our pastor does an excellent job of setting the stage for his sermon. Common everyday life and how to live it based on GOD's word
What's childcare like? Seems pretty good to me,I was in there tonight and wasn't suppose to be,we have a great group of volenteers that truly love these children. Heck all of mine are grown and I enjoy it from time to time.
What's your favorite thing? By and large these people truly love one another, no they don't alway's agree with one another, but you let somthing happen to one of the family and they are there for them.
What would you change? Too many comittee's, I know the business of the church is very important but I also believe the that we get so caught up in that we forget what we're really about{Evangelize the lost}
Can I wear jeans? Absolutly!!! I did tonight and no one looked at me like was I crazy.
Name of church:Broadmoor Assembly of God
City:Shreveport

What's the worship music like? Contemporary(think lots of Tomlin type songs), about 40 minutes including "greet your neighbor" time and announcements. My parents think it's loud.
What's the speaking like? relevant, bible-based, we believe in the gift of tongues.
What's the childcare like? overflowing, we have a good volunteer base, but there are just a ton of babies/children.
What's your favorite thing? Everyone in my church is overflowing with the love of God. Someone I know who is accepted/included by very few groups was immediately welcomed and is very much loved.
What would you change?I would love to sing more old hymns, and have more corporate scripture readings and other "traditional" things.
Can I wear jeans?YES!!
Name of church: John Calvin Presbyterian Church
City: Metairie, LA
Website: http://www.johncalvinchurch.org/
What's the worship music like? (Contemporary, hymns, long, fast, loud etc?) I went on Saturday night: Contemporary, pretty average quality. The singer was frequently off pitch.
What's the speaking like? (Old school Bible, culturally relevant, by video etc?) The guest preacher when I visited was an older guy who likes to stay away from the pulpit. He's a creative guy who speaks from the heart and loves telling stories, but he's also influenced by traditional presuppositions about what church is supposed to be like.
What's the childcare like? None on Saturday night, but they do have it on Sunday morning.
What's your favorite thing? What would you change? It really touches my heart that this church is trying to reach out in new ways with the Saturday service. However, they aren't really breaking out of the Presbyterian box hard enough. It's a traditional worship service with a simple substitution of music and location. Change? Without getting drastic: I would get the chairs out of straight lines and into a semicircle; get rid of the podium; add a drum and a better lead vocalist (maybe get some female representation up there!); kill the fluorescent lights and bring in some floor lamps and candles; shorten the sermon; and spend a good chunk of time on informal, creative, participatory prayer. Easy, right? ;)
Can I wear jeans? Yes! Still true but less so on Sunday morning.
Name of church: Brookwood Baptist Church
City: Shreveport
Website: http://brookwoodbaptist.com/
What's the worship music like? (Contemporary, hymns, long, fast, loud etc?)Contemporary on Saturday nights and Sunday morning at 10:45. Hymns and all at 9:30 Sunday mornings. the worship band ROCKS
What's the speaking like? (Old school Bible, culturally relevant, by video etc?): A very laid back kind of teaching. Uses lots of different media
What's the childcare like? We have programs for all ages of kids. Starting a family worship time in the summer!(cheap plug)
What's your favorite thing? That the people there are very very real
What would you change? I would like more of a singles ministry
Can I wear jeans? Heck yeah! I sometimes even wear jeans shorts. Yeah. I'm that guy.
Name of church: Church of Christ @ Railroad Ave.
City: Morgan City, LA
Website: Under Construction
What's the worship music like? Acapella, Old School or Contemporary depending on the song leader, Upbeat (also depends)
What's the speaking like? Strictly biblical-based, yet culturally relevant, and often humorous. Always ends with an open invitation to study and/or be baptized.
What's the childcare like? Sunday school; children usually remain in auditorium during service, but childcare is available if needed.
What's your favorite thing? I love the preaching and the fellowship. The church members are very friendly, open, and helpful to new worshipers.
What would you change? More of the 20 to 30-year-old crowd. There are the elderly, adults, and children, but the young adult crowd is missing in action!
Can I wear jeans? Yes. A majority of the church members don't, but it is not frowned-upon if you do.
