What's the worship music like? (Contemporary, hymns, long, fast, loud etc?): Some have said a bit on the loud side. Modern would be a correct term but we haven't forgotten hundreds of years of church history either. We tend to sing 5-6 songs a week.
What's the speaking like? (Old school Bible, culturally relevant, by video etc?): Biblical application to life.
What's the childcare like?: We are a growing church, so there are a lot of kids but we strive to be organized and the kids have a blast. From babies (nursery) to 5th grade (Jr. Worship).
What's your favorite thing?: The music is good, grace is preached, the kids love it, service is emphasized. If you want to sit back and consume, don't come here.
What would you change?: Congregational participation in singing.
Can I wear jeans?: Absolutely.

Name of church Jubilee Fellowship

Website jubileefellowship.net (under construction)

What's the worship music like? (Contemporary, hymns, long, fast, loud etc?) Contemporary, with an occasional hymn. Tends toward loud, they are a praise band. Typically 30-35 minutes of praise and worship.

What's the speaking like? (Old school Bible, culturally relevant, by video etc?) Textually-based, culturally relevant messages presented with heaping helpings of humor, less heaping helpings of object lessons and take-home illustrations, and increasing use of media.

What's the childcare like? Nursery for kids under 3, Kid's church for preschool and elementary kids, all staffed by volunteers. Kids stay with parents until praise and worship is over, then are released after being prayed for by an elder/deacon and spouse.

What's your favorite thing? The laughter, the smiles, and the welcoming atmosphere.

What would you change? We're working on cranking the "amps" up a notch or two in kid's church - it's going to be VBS every Sunday morning!

Can I wear jeans? Our only Dress Code is "please do..." Seriously, wear what you feel comfortable in - we're more interested in you than in what you are wearing

Extraneous information not included in the original template:

The pastor has a nice goatee +2 points
He sometimes wears "Hawaiian" shirts -1 point

Name of church: Granger Community Church
City: Granger, IN
Website: www.gccwired.com
What's the worship music like? (Contemporary, hymns, long, fast, loud etc?)Contemporary. Also Awesome
What's the speaking like? (Old school Bible, culturally relevant, by video etc?): It depends on who is speaking but everything is super relevant. Weekend services focus on being relevant and Thursday services dig into the word a little bit more.
What's the childcare like? I cannot say enough good things about the Children's ministry. Every classroom starting with the 4 yr olds has a slide down from the main floor into each classroom. The lessons and worship down there are great too. Basically the entire lower level is dedicated to the kids. They really want to make sure that people feel great about leaving their kids there while attending service and teach the kids about Jesus in a way that they can understand it and have some fun! Seriously. So great.
What's your favorite thing? Besides working with the kids? Thursday night services! Ooo..also Second Saturdays!
What would you change? I wish I was still in the area. I miss my church!
Can I wear jeans? Absolutely

Other super cool things:
There is a great 20-something group at the church called MERGE that includes small groups. It is awesome for post-highschool, pre-family fellowship!
Thursday night services are so great!
The church strives to serve the community and has opened a community center in downtown South Bend.
The second Saturday of every month the church also gets together to get out into the community and show people that God loves them by serving.
The church also strives to be relevant and makes sure to have an environment where people feel safe and comfortable.
There is also a cafe!
Yeah. So Great.

Wakarusa Missionary Church

Wakarusa, IN

Sundays: 8 am & 10:15 am
Sunday School: 9;15 am
Wednesday Night for All Ages: 7 pm
Our Website: wakymc.org

Our worship time has a good mix. It is mostly contemporary with a full band, but we also enjoy some hymns, too.

The speaking time is good. Our pastors are culturally relevant with a conversational style, and very personable.

I think childcare and children's ministry are one of the high points of our church. We have themed areas from birth to preschool kids for both service and Sunday School, and have a seperate service for our K-5th graders during our 2nd service. Not only do our kids have fun, hopefully they learn something, too!

My favorite thing is the friendships we've made through our small church. Not only have we made some great friends and memories, but their care and support in the hard times has been priceless to us.

What would I change? Well, we like to go to the early (8 am) service, and there's no "children's church" for our grade school aged kids in that hour...but looking around the sanctuary, we're one of the few with kids in that service, so I can understand...

Can you wear jeans? Absolutely! Whatever you want to wear is fine. We have a very relaxed atmosphere, and your choice of clothing on your bottom half have nothing to do with what we are doing at WMC. Come visit us!!

Name of church: Indian Creek Christian Church (The Creek)

City: Indianapolis (Franklin Township Area)

Website: thecreek.org

What's the worship music like?: Contemporary. They do hymns that they re-mix to fit with worship songs. A little too early '90s for my taste sometimes.

What's the speaking like?: The speaking is the thing that I most love about my church. Dr. Gary is culturally relevant, old school Bible and smack you in the face honest.

What's the childcare like?: Quite well organized. They have a playground inside the church for the younger kids. Pagers for the nursery, color-coded nametags for the older kids. Separate services for school age, middle school, and high school.

What's your favorite thing?: Again, the speaking in fantastic. We also have a fantastic "Young Adult" (18-35)ministry called 3Fold that has it's own minister on staff. I love my church for caring about my age group.

What would you change?: Being a mega-Church, it's waaaaay too easy to get in and out without having to commit or get involved.

Can I wear jeans?: Absolutely. Come exactly as you are.

Services are at 8:00, 9:30 and 11. All three are identical. Sermons are available as podcasts for itunes on the website. Great use of the AV guy.

What's your favorite thing? sermons are edifying & revelant to everyday living.
What would you change? Plenty...1. like have the Pastor delegate sunday worship duties: He currently does the Head worship, prayer, offering, news/announcements, sermon & invitation. 2. Nicer adults teaching my child in Sunday School & Wednesday nights

Name of church: River Oaks Community Church
City: Goshen
Website: www.riveroaks.org
What's the worship music like? (Contemporary, hymns, long, fast, loud etc?): beyond awesome, always uplifting and leads perfectly into the sermon ... contemporary for sure, very few hymns except on the holidays; led by an amazing musician/worship director and a fabulous team of musicians who have talent coming from their pores and hearts that yearn for God
What's the speaking like? (Old school Bible, culturally relevant, by video etc?): we have a Bible-strong teaching pastor who is culturally relevant, and resonates with people; it's clear God uses him regularly to read my mail :-); go to the lost, grow in faith, show compassion to the poor is the mission statement; pastor speaks with clarity, power and compassion
What's the childcare like?: amazing staff of paid and lay leadership for kids 6 weeks through 6th grade; solid Bible teaching (and we actually open up the Bibles in class as much as possible); themed rooms for all kids, so it's fun and functional; the youth program is pretty smart, too
What's your favorite thing?: i love our church's heart for the poor; it resonates through to every small group
What would you change?: i would love for us to get a younger assistant pastor, as the body is starting to get "older" and i'd love to get a younger pastor in there to learn from the senior pastor to carry on what he's doing so well and to support the younger generation
Can I wear jeans: ABSOLUTELY. jeans. jean skirt. jean shorts. you can also wear your piercings, mohawked hair, tattoos ... whatever ...

Extras: our church is grabbing hold of the vision to support and bridge the 18-35 yo generation and is starting several small groups for fellowship and study for those post-high school but pre-family, as well as those in that age group who have started families.

What's the worship music like? Depends on which service you are at... the Traditional Service features a mix of hymns and praise choruses while the Contemporary Service rocks out the contemporary Christian music.
What's the speaking like? Culturally relevent, Biblically based, with a healthy dose of power point.
What's the childcare like? Children's Church allows children to leave during the sermon for their own service. Nursery care is generally non-existent although there is a nursery available (people just don't leave their babies in the nursery like they used to! And our pastor welcomes the sound of children in the sanctuary)
What's your favorite thing? My beautiful, loving, amazing church family.
What would you change? "the way we've always done things" ;)

Name of church: Lamb's Chapel

City: LaPorte, IN

Website: www.lambschapel.org (but give it a week or so, we're currently working on getting the domain back)

What's the worship music like?: (Contemporary, hymns, long, fast, loud etc?): There's a hymn service at 9, a younger-type contemporary service (with a drummerquarium!) at 10, and an old school contemporary service at 11:30. For both there are 3-4 songs before the sermon and 1-2 after. Our young contemporary worship singer isn't very metro...but he is kind of fancy.

What's the speaking like?: (Old school Bible, culturally relevant, by video etc?): It depends on the service. I've never been to the early one, but the 10:00 is done by video, and the 11:30 is culturally relevant but still kind of old school. Jay (the pastor) always manages to work someone in the audience into the sermon, and sometimes there's even playful heckling involved. We're not very formal.

What's the childcare like?: We're having a little difficulty with childcare for Wednesday bible study night, but other than that it's pretty good.

What's your favorite thing?: After every service, everyone gathers in the church basement and has a meal together. Also, we have a lot of different ministries to get involved in, including the food pantry ministry. It's a small (but growing) church, and it feels like family. For example, when we built an addition on the church (for the food pantry ministry), people from the church donated their time and built most of it for free.

What would you change?: Sometimes we have a problem with volunteers for the different ministries, especially children's ministry on Wednesday nights.

Can I wear jeans?: You can wear your cutoff jean shorts if you want. Or a three-piece suit. Dye your hair blue. Braid your ponytail and ride in on a Harley if you're a guy. Wear makeup and coif your hair if you're a girl. We don't care. You might get some good-natured teasing from pastor Jay (that would probably happen no matter what you wear though), but we'll love you no matter what you look like.

Name of church: HealingPointe Community Church

City: Terre Haute, IN

Website: www.healingpointe.com

What's the worship music like? (Contemporary, hymns, long, fast, loud etc?)I'm biased because my husband and I lead the worship...but it's well done and meaningful. We work really hard to focus on getting everyone to truly worship instead of style. We've been known to totally rock out. We've been known to be quiet and intimate. Depends on the situation, but mostly contemp stuff.

What's the speaking like? (Old school Bible, culturally relevant, by video etc?) We have a 30-ish pastor who blows me away with his maturity as a Christian and who finds these great ways to make the Bible understandable and apply to life. He tells it like it is. You can tell Jesus is his model as a speaker. :)

What's the childcare like? Nursery for the tiny ones, and HP Kidz for the elementary age is dismissed after opening worship. We don't have the "awesome" factor of a massive kids program because we're a pretty small church, but the kids are loved, have fun, and learn about God. Great staff/volunteers! I depend on them!

What's your favorite thing? It's great if people come to us, but I like that we're a church that goes out to people. Also, our main service is on Saturday evening which is a good fit for my young family. No theological reason for Saturday. It just works for our church.

What would you change? I would want more people to come and share in our vision of showing Jesus to the people in the Terre Haute area.

Can I wear jeans? Yup. Our pastor sometimes wears his with flip flops.

What's the worship music like? (Contemporary, hymns, long, fast, loud etc?) : A fairly good mix of music, focusing mainly on contemporary worship from leaders like Chris Tomlin, Christ for the Nations Institute, Matt Redman, David Crowder Band, Desperation Band, and on...
What's the speaking like? (Old school Bible, culturally relevant, by video etc?) Our head pastor generally speaks each Sunday morning with a message that is life/community/culture relevant and applicable.
What's the childcare like? Childcare is provided for children from birth to middle-school ages. The programs are age appropriate with worship, teaching, crafts, and games focused directly towards the children's needs.
What's your favorite thing? We're called Elston Family Church, because we really are a family. I have been on bedrest with a highly complicated and dangerous pregnancy for twelve weeks. It would have been completely impossible without the love and service of my Elston Family.
What would you change? We need a bigger building soon. We're very quickly outgrowing our space.

What's the worship music like?: More hymns and mixed worship at the early service, contemporary at the two latest ones--but does NOT feel like a concert performance

What's the speaking like?: Pastor Bob Whitaker is a great speaker--he used to be a teacher and likes to incorporate history. Context is very important. Real, honest, convicting messages that prod us to really live life for Christ. You can listen to sermons here: http://www.eccbloomingtonmc.org/Sermon/Sermon%20Downloads/sermondownloads.html

What's the childcare like?: nursery, 2s&3s, 4s&5s rooms as well as Underground, the worship service for elementary age kids. Run by a great, enthusiastic Children's Ministry director. Great volunteers.

What's your favorite thing? The church family--interacting with people of all ages and backgrounds. Lots of small group/community group opportunities as well as ways to serve missions/community/the church.

What would you change? hmmm...not sure

Can I wear jeans? Yes!

Baptist Fellowship
Plainfield, IN (Suburb of Indy)
http://www.baptist-fellowship.com (still a work in progress)
Worship Music: Contemporary with some hymns thrown in (but no hymnals)
This church is a church plant, so the worship team only has keyboards, bass guitar, and acoustic guitar. Eventually we hope to include drums as well, but currently the only drummer is also the only keyboardist.
Speaking: Culturally relevent from an experienced pastor in his 50's
Childcare: This is a small church plant so there are currently only a couple of kids requiring childcare. But we have a lot of equipment and toys for babies and small kids and the workers are fun and love children.
Favorite thing: The friendly atmosphere of a close-knit group of believers who are always welcoming to newcomers.
What to change: Due to this being a church plant, we currently meet in the Plainfield Rec Center, which means our extra activities, outside of Sunday morning service and Wednesday night AWANAS, are limited.
You can most definitely wear jeans! If you want to wear shorts, please feel free to do so, you won't be alone.
