Cornerstone Presbyterian Church
Delafield (West of Milwaukee)
www.cornerstone-pca.com

Worship Music: Contemporary & Hymns (All in the same service - it's like PB&J)

Preaching: expository. Visual aids aren't prohibited, but aren't really necessary either.

Childcare: Well-staffed. 0-2, 2-3 Older kids excused for children's church before the sermon. Childcare optional. Kids welcome in the service - occasional outbursts are expected.

Favorite thing: You're welcome to steal our pew bibles, although they're too new to have that good 'ol hymbook smell.

What I would change: me.

Jeans of every variety welcome - acid washed, carpenter, mom jeans, jeans with the cuff rolled tight, jeans with pre-faded ovals on them, authentic and pre-ripped, stiff wrangler jeans (with and without irony).

Crosspoint Community Church
Oconomowoc,Wisconsin
(30 minutes west of Milwaukee)

MUSIC: 8 AM Sunday: traditional (hymns, quieter choruses); Saturday 6 PM & Sunday 9:15 & 11:00 AM services: Contemporary (full band, mix of loud and softer songs).

SPEAKING: Culturally relevant + straight from the Bible (encouraged to bring your Bible or have one from the foyer if you don't own one, or the verses are up on the multimedia screens. The services are full of interaction (the pastor may ask the congregation to read the verses aloud with him and may say something like "Are ya'll doin' anythin'? Read these verses with me." (Kentucky pastor with a southern drawl). Use of multimedia (presentation on screen + video announcements and to supplement the sermon series)

Childcare: Well staffed, "GoKidz" children's service and Sunday School classes, full nursery. In most services, children are dismissed to children's church before the sermon begins.

Youth ministry*: http://matchboxonline.org
September - May**, a Sunday morning, 11:00 AM youth-run service for youth attracts area youth to a service all their own. Culturally relevant and biblically direct teaching introduce youth ages 11 to 21 (all ages, really) to Jesus Christ and how to have a relationship with Jesus. Students are the greeters, ushers, band members, singers, and tech teams. Youth pastor brings a message and usually incorporates creativity into the service (drama, video, coolest stage lighting and sound equipment - like being at a concert).

*DISCLAIMER: I'm on the leadership team for the youth ministry! I work with the junior high girls.

**September - May - The 11 AM youth service is during the school year. Wednesday night midweek small groups meet at the church for discussion and prayer for each other (and games and announcements at times)....

During the SUMMER months, "Matchbox Summer Nights" include activities each Wednesday night - calendar of activities is available at the website. (http://matchboxonline.org)

FAVORITE THING: That anyone can walk in - no matter what - and be welcomed... dressed up or dressed down, curious about this whole "church" thing or someone who has been around church for awhile... (I'm not saying it eloquently - but I hope you get my drift!)

WHAT I WOULD CHANGE: Can I get back to you on this one?!

CAN I WEAR JEANS?? Absolutely. You may see the pastor in jeans on a Saturday night - and maybe on a Sunday. for sure..someone on the stage will be in jeans..and if you look around the room, you'll find many, many people in jeans. In fact, I may just wear jeans tomorrow to church!

What's the worship music like? (Contemporary, hymns, long, fast, loud etc?) Mostly contemporary, few hymns, sometimes acoustic, sometimes a band.
What's the speaking like? (Old school Bible, culturally relevant, by video etc?) Culturally relevant, conversational style, always strongly referenced to Scripture, sometimes exegetical.
What's the childcare like? Children's service through 5th grade, excellent nursery care. Kids love church.
What's your favorite thing? Welcoming atmosphere to everyone.
What would you change? Nothing I can think of.
Can I wear jeans? Absolutely!! The pastor even has several tattoos.

Worship Music: Contemporary & hymns. Most weeks the worship team has an accoustic guitar, electric guitar, bass, piano, and drum set. Though several times a month, it will be stripped down- just piano and accoustic guitar... maybe bongos. We incorporate a lot of classic hymns as well.

Preaching: Expository and topical. Mostly expository but church holidays such as Christmas, Easter, Pentecost, etc. the pastor will take a few weeks to do some relevant-to-the-holiday topics.

Childcare: There's a nursery as well as toddletown. There is children's church but all child care is optional- children are encouraged to join in the service.

My Favorite Thing: I love the emphasis on grace and Christ. I love the teaching, I love Pastor Griffiths- very good teacher, very enthusiastic and you can't help but get excited about whatever he's excited about. I also love the worship, so much energy and I love how the worship pastor will tie in the songs with the sermon.

What Would I Change: I honestly can't think of anything! I'm sure it's not perfect but it feels like home!

Can I Wear Jeans?: Absolutely!
