What's the worship music like? (Contemporary, hymns, long, fast, loud etc?): Traditional hymns during the 8:30 service, and a mixture of hymns and folk worship tunes at the 11:00 service.
What's the speaking like? (Old school Bible, culturally relevant, by video etc?): Culturally relevant (but not too many pop culture references). No videos. NIV Bible. No shouting.
What's the childcare like?: Not sure, I've never fully observed it.
What's your favorite thing?: It's traditional without being boring.
What would you change?: More twentysomethings
Can I wear jeans?: I haven't been kicked out yet, so I say yes.

Name of church: Living Waters Worship Center

City: Odenton, MD

Website: www.h20-alive.com (but we have a new one currently under construction that is soooo much better)

What's the worship music like? (Contemporary, hymns, long, fast, loud etc?): contemporary gospel with a mix of some other contemporary. Along the lines of Isreal and New Breed, Tye Tribbett...I think we have a clip of worship on the site. (but I must warn you, it would be an old clip)

What's the speaking like? (Old school Bible, culturally relevant, by video etc?): great way of sharing the word in a culturally relevant way so it's a mix of the Old School Bible with culturally relevant, videos are very rare, the pastoral staff (they take turns preaching)are very real with the word. No superstars trying to use big words and confuse you here, each message is very clear

What's the childcare like?: Very good, the kids are happy to be there from what I see. This is a very family friendly church. Very organized with pick up and drop off(this is a big church with two services so there are a lot of kids to manage)

What's your favorite thing?: Its family friendly, these people really do care about each other. I have been a member for a year and from the beginning I have always felt welcomed and at home. There are many ways to get connected and grow.

TIP: There are two services 9am and 11:30 am (the 9am service gets you out PROMPTLY at 11am, which I love...the 11:30 service can get longer one day I recall lasting until 2:30 but it was a tremendous service.) So whatever your stamina allows!

What would you change?: It gets so cold in that sanctuary! Bring a sweater!

Can I wear jeans?: Yup, many people do, including me!

Name of church: Gateway Ministries
City: Williamsport, MD
Website: http://www.gatewayfreshfire.org/
What's the worship music like? (Contemporary, hymns, long, fast, loud etc?): Contemporary, 7-8 praise and worship leaders with shout praise team behind them, live band.
What's the speaking like? (Old school Bible, culturally relevant, by video etc?): A little bit of everything, we are a large multi-cultural church, have an entire hispanic ministry as well.
What's the childcare like? Fantastic, always available. Ages up to 2 are nursery. 2, 3, 4, 5 have own classrooms. 6-10 are Kingdom Kids program on sunday mornings. MAXX is junior high on wed eve and SURGE is teens on wed eve - each have own praise team and pastors. It's awesome.
What's your favorite thing? The organization of such a large church is refreshing I think. There is always someone to help. So many ministries, for all ages and our slogan is "nobody stands alone" and i think they stick to that pretty well. if you have an age, there is something for you. if there isn't something you want, they'll start a ministry.
What would you change? getting back sunday evening services, i miss that. it's sunday 10 am worship service and wed 7pm bible study. hispanic service is sat eve and sunday at 1pm
Can I wear jeans? you can wear anything your heart desires. i have gone in t-shirt, jeans and a baseball cap on wednesday night. i went in a t-shirt, capris and flip flops sunday morning. nobody looks at you weird by what you wear. everyone dresses very differently. i love that.

What's the worship music like? (Contemporary, hymns, long, fast, loud etc?) Very contemporary. A lot of songs that you might find in your cd player, but not necessarily the ones that are super overplayed.

What's the speaking like? (Old school Bible, culturally relevant, by video etc?) Culturally relevant, I would say. Our pastor has biblical references for what he speaks about.

What's the childcare like? childcare is GREAT. I don't have children, but I've helped out in our huge nursery and I sometimes wish I was a young'n. We have pagers to alert you if your child is in need of you during service, so that you can worship peacefully without worrying.

What's your favorite thing? Two things
1. The youth program. I am highly involved and a huge advocate. We have a great middle and high school program. I went through both, and now lead with the middle school and they are amazing organizations with great leaders involved in your kids lives.
2. The amount of love and care within the church. Once you get involved, you feel like you have a second family. I love walking into a church of about 500 and knowing that there are several people in the congregation praying for me specifically.

What would you change? Not much. Mostly the way that people feel when they first attend. I think because the church is so large, that its easy to get lost. I would definitely encourage anybody to join a small group when attending any church, especially this one.

Can I wear jeans? MOST DEFINITELY!

What's the worship music like? contemporary.
What's the speaking like? relevant but challenging messages. My pastor is funny, so you're bound to learn, be challenged, grow - but enjoy yourself in the process.
What's the childcare like? Xtreme Children's Church, Remnant Youth Ministry meets every Friday
What's your favorite thing? how relevant the message is, how I don't have to figure out how to apply what I learn to everyday life.
What would you change? I love drama, and I wish my church had a drama ministry. I'd most definately be involved.
Can I wear jeans? yes. Even my pastor wears jeans and sweats sometimes
