Springwood Baptist Church

Springwood, NSW

http://springwoodbaptist.org.au/

We have 4 services, one tends heavily towards hymns, and they get louder and more modern from there.

The speaking is a mix of culturally relevant, and old-school Bible

The 10am and 4pm services have a creche, and there is a kids church at 10am.

My favourite thing is the friendliness, I would add more parking.

Of course you can wear jeans (even thongs (or flip-flops if you are American).

Northside Christian Church
Brisbane, QLD

Contemporary worship at both our 9am and 6pm service: our 6pm is louder!

We're all about equipping people to be the church 24/7 - so you will hear teaching and preaching that communicates timeless truth in a timely way. Messages go for 25-40 minutes, depending on the service. We are a pretty conversational bunch and favour authenticity, hope, faith and love.

Childcare and Kid's Church runs during our 9am service with some great parents rooms, supervised creche and a Kid's church that is fun, caring, safe and teaches children all about God. There is no childcare at our 6pm service - but there is a parents room.

My favourite thing - gotta be the people! (The free tea, coffee and hot chocolate after the service isn't bad either!)

I would change.... me - but God and I are working on that! ;-)

Absolutely you can wear jeans... or shorts, or a suit. The outside isn't important - it's the heart that counts!

Gracepoint Burwood and Auburn

Burwood and Auburn, Sydney

www.gracepoint.org.au

music is a mix of everything, from hymns to contemporary

speaking is culturally relevant, old-school bible based

most of the parents go to the auburn service at 10.30 (a plant from burwood) so they've got a creche each sunday. burwood at 5pm has a creche if kids turn up

favourite thing - the teaching. it's always very challenging.

least favourite - no air-conditioning, so is like a sauna in summer.

jeans, shorts, t-shirts are all good.

What's the worship music like? (Contemporary, hymns, long, fast, loud etc?): contemporary (the 6pm is louder than the morning services) and the wroship team write some of their own music, we recorded an albumm earlier this year and it's going to be released soon!

What's the speaking like? (Old school Bible, culturally relevant, by video etc?) very Biblical, very very good!

What's the childcare like? there is a great parents room... they are in the process of building an even better one. kids church runs at the 8am and 10:30am services. 2 of my sisters are leaders and they love it! (oh and sometimes jet the wonderdog shows up too :P)

What's your favorite thing?
My favourite thing is that God shows up... i mean i know God is "everywhere" but i mean when he reaches in and takes over the meeting... and ppls lives are changed.
I also love how we are so community focused... we do a lot in the schools and universities and that keeps increasing

What would you change?
parking...
time restrictions (but I'm pretty sure God's taking care of that one :P

Can I wear jeans?
yea.. its pretty much what i wear all the time...

What's the childcare like? Pretty awesome. We have a variety of kids church programs... ones for toddlers.. for kids... for the pre-teens.. up to grade 7.
What's your favorite thing? Genuine relationships. Working as the body..

Planetshakers City Church

Melbourne, VIC

Worship music is highly contemporary (fast and loud), we write our own stuff so you won't have to sing through 'How Great Is Our God' for the thousandth time. The mix changes pretty regularly as it gets release on albums, that sort of thing. Worship leaders are about a five on the metro scale.

Speaking is defintely focused on being culturally relevant, but there's plenty of Bible in there. Speakers tend to be very engaging, interesting to listen to.

No childcare to speak of, we have a kids program which runs during all services and at many church 'events', caters for toddlers up to primary school kids. Our kids pastor is a legend as well.

Favourite thing is the 'urban life' groups - basically cell groups which are run midweek. Makes a big church small, and you make so many friends!

I would like to see us have our own building, we are probably the biggest church in Australia without a permanent building.

You can definitely wear jeans. Bonus points if they're 'distressed'.

What's the worship music like?
Brilliant. Contemporary rock/funk/groove

What's the speaking like?
topical, biblical, culturally relevant, experienced and new speakers.

What's the childcare like?
Morning service is great for kids, evening service, we all try to lend a hand...

What's your favorite thing?
The crew. Just a great group of people with whom I can be myself and be loved inspite of that.

What would you change?
Having to set-up and pack-down every Sunday (we meet in a local school, not our own building)

Can I wear jeans?
Heck yes. Even the Pastor wears jeans. Which I picked for him.

What's the worship music like? (Contemporary, hymns, long, fast, loud etc?): our pastor on a guitar. He plays a mix of different kinds of songs

What's the speaking like? (Old school Bible, culturally relevant, by video etc?): Bible based teaching that's culturally relevent.

What's the childcare like?: We currently have 4 semi-regular attending children and we have work sheets (colouring in) for them during the talk

What's your favorite thing?: I love that we're small. There's a greater sense of community and fellowship when you know everyone at your church and can pray for all of them.

What would you change?: Nothing actually. I came to this church from a big one and I love it. ^.^

Can I wear jeans?: absolutely.

City: Alderley, Brisbane

Website: www.cornerstonecentre.org.au

What's the worship music like? Contemporary music or old classics and hymns with contemporary backing. More experimental at night with xylophones and hopefully a harp to be introduced soon... I’m hoping a banjo too. We’re open to new things and would like to see in-house writing.

What's the speaking like? I think Pastor Charles Newington is a hidden gem. I have no idea how he finds time to read what he does (amazing general knowledge) and hear from God in his busy schedule – amazing Biblical knowledge, but he does! He is our main teacher and he is insightful about life and a really beautiful story-teller – I often feel disappointed he doesn’t have a larger audience. I think I’ve heard his style described as expository. His son Josh (28) is also becoming more involved at nights and speaks the hard truth without getting mixed up with superficiality. They both employ large doses of humour.

What's the childcare like? (Mornings only) the kids stay in for the singing and video news then go to their age specific areas for play, Bible-based activities, hands on stuff and food.

What's your favorite thing? This is my family. It’s like a 2nd home.

What would you change? Being like a family you love it and hate it. But I think that’s a healthy thing.

Can I wear jeans? Please do, most people do… In fact occasionally the muso’s cut- loose and dance around on the stage bare-footed!

How many people? 150 in the morning (all ages) and 50 at night (mostly younger). I think for a little church we pack a good punch!

What's the speaking like? (Old school Bible, culturally relevant, by video etc?) New and old school, occasional powerpointing
What's the childcare like? Hmm.. Tagging kids like whales comes to mind..
What's your favorite thing? Some of the songs, Friends
What would you change? Maybe add an eagle, I reckon it's pretty good as is
Can I wear jeans? Most definitely

If by "contemporary" worship you mean loud, drums, rockin out, then yes...contemporary.

INCREDIBLE teaching!

kids go down slides and pop out in their classrooms...that's pretty cool!

Favorite thing: excellence matters

What I would change: more multi-sites

and YES! You can definitely wear jeans!

Name of church - Blackwood Hills Baptist
City - Adelaide
Website - don't bother

What's the worship music like? - Full of contemporary christian blahs and bleughs

What's the speaking like? - Seeker-sensitive pick'n'mix bible and culture, occasionally challenging.

What's the childcare like? - Half-price on Sunday

What's your favorite thing? - Great community that's open to the work of God, open to anything "good".

What would you change? - It's soft, there's little passion for evangelism. It's built on routine. I'd change all of that. People go on blogs and write critically analyse it... oh wait.

Can I wear jeans? - Only if they're cut-offs.

Name of church: Church of the Open Door

City: Hampden, ME

Website: www.opendoorme.com

What's the worship music like? (Contemporary, hymns, long, fast, loud etc?): Contemporary, some hymns but contemporized (don't think that's a real word). Guitars, drums (you know, those round things with dead animal skins on the top - they're straight from the pit of hell :) , keyboards, etc.

What's the speaking like? (Old school Bible, culturally relevant, by video etc?): They go from topical to going through a Book of the Bible, start to finish. Very contextual. You get the meat of God's word, and application.

What's the childcare like?: Nursery for 0-3yrs, Jr. Church during the message is open for 4-7yr olds.

What's your favorite thing?: Very Biblically driven church, answers to God, not a denomination. We're very laid back and easy going.

What would you change?: I'd crank the music up a good notch or two, even though it's already contemporary.

Can I wear jeans? You betcha. We have three pastors, Senior Pastor, Outreach Pastor, and the Youth Pastor (that's me). Preaching from he pulpit, both the Outreach Pastor and I wear jeans. Our Senior Pastor wears slacks - no tie. The congregation goes from suits (very rare) to shorts and t-shirt (more common).

Probably not the right place for this comment nor do I want to be the semantics police, but most Children's Pastors (and I am one) would be really bummed out about people describing their church's "childcare." (After all, Kindercare does childcare.) While that particular word makes me cringe, I love your thoughts...please keep sharing!!! I'd love to hear what people think about the ministry to children at their church.

Seriously, what about churches where there are singles ministries and singles actually feel comfortable. Last I checked, I still don't have kids or even a boyfriend and this can make life very uncomfortable at times. Sorry, it's just true!!!

What's the childcare like?
We've got Children's Church. And a cry room for children younger than 3, I think.

What would you change?
Nothing at the mo.

Sure you can.

Muldoon Community Assembly of God
Anchorage, Alaska
Website: mcaonline.org
In the main service the music is usually Pretty Mellow but definitely heartfelt and wonderful
The speaking is Culturally Relevant and applicable and understandable to all stages of christian growth.
The childcare is incredible. I've been to many churches around the globe and it is my still biased opinion that MCA does sunday school incredibly well!
My favorite thing about MCA is the fact that everyone is highly encouraged and given opportunity to get involved, united and enmeshed with each other and the community through the ministries that they desire to take part in. You don't need a degree or an ordination to step in and lend a hand in everything from music to ushering to street outreach. If I could change one thing I would take out all the beauracracy that comes with being part of a large umbrella organization like Assemblies of God. It makes for some red tape especially in the "membership process".
You can most definitely wear jeans, almost everyone does.

Music style: Contemporary

Speaking: Biblical foundation with cultural relevancy

Childcare: Kick %#$

Favorite thing: Poor people sit next to rich people as they learn about the transformation found in Christ

What would I change: We do a great job sharing the Message of Christ and serving the local homeless and hungry community but we've failed in developing the priesthood of believers. We are working on a new training plan for 2010.

Can you wear jeans? Jeans, shorts, slacks, speedos...ok, not speedos.

The most remarkable thing about this paid survey program is that anyone can make money with it.
It doesn't require any special skills, training, education or previous business experience. You only need access to the Internet and basic typing skills.
It is the perfect home business for stay at home moms, students, home makers, retirees or anyone that is in need of some extra cash.

Name of church: New Covenant Christian Church
City: Laconia, NH
Website: nccclaconia.org
What's the worship music like?: Contemporary with a bit of olde-timey thrown in for the seniors. Very Tomlinesque
What's the speaking like?: Pastor Jim is "on fire" for God. He tends to sermonize, but the message is meaty and challenging and extremely relevant. There is no fooling around about the Holiness of God and how to show Him just how much we love and honor Him.
What's the childcare like?: From what I can tell, it is awesome. The kids are taught to love, love, love one another. It is modeled well in the church. There is no youth group right now, however. A solid showing of youth would be a tremendous blessing and I'm sure a youth group could be formed.
What's your favorite thing?: The folks here are loving and accepting. They really want to make a difference.
What would you change?: The church really needs some small fellowship groups that meet mid-week.
Can I wear jeans?: Of course! This place is pretty cazh.
