Jubilee Shores
Fairhope, AL
http://www.jubileeshores.net/
20 to 30 minutes of various contemporary praise songs & hymns that have been updated
Sermons are relevant to today's issues, use lots of video, seeker-friendly
Very welcoming, folks are sincerely glad you're there
Because sermons are seeker-friendly, I'd like a little deeper messages than those that are currently preached
Can I wear jeans? YES! and shorts, even

Name of church: Church of the Highlands
City: Birmingham (Irondale)
Website: www.churchofthehighlands.com
What's the worship music like? Contemporary with some original music as well as some hymns once in a while.
What's the speaking like? Culturally relevant and totally Biblically-based.
What's the childcare like? Excellent - It is one of the main focus areas for our church.
What's your favorite thing? Worship. It just so sincere and powerful.
What would you change? Honestly, this is my perfect church. After almost 5 years, I've not seen one that keeps the Word front-and-center as well as we do. For me, that is what is foundational and everything else comes out from that.
Can I wear jeans? Absolutely.

Other comments
Sunday mornings are oriented towards everyone from seekers to believers. Wednesday night is a more "verse-by-verse" Bible study with extended worship. Wednesday night is my personal favorite. The Small Groups are awesome and the backbone of the church.

Faith Community Fellowship
Birmingham (Trussville)

Contemporary, slow and fast, maybe 20 mins of worship time.
Culturally relevant topics, several series type messages with illustrations and videos
Childcare is great: infant up to age 5 in Nursery, 5 to 11 in Sunday School called The Zone.
My favorite thing is the feeling of community and closeness. You feel at home there.
I don't think I would change anything.
Yes you can wear jeans. Our pastor does not wear a suit and people dress up and down at our church.
We provide food, water, juice and coffee also, that you are welcome to bring into the service.

What's the worship music like? Contemporary, loud and lively
What's the speaking like? Culturally relevant. Our pastor is long winded sometimes, but he is very knowledgable about the Bible and cares a lot about people.
What's the childcare like? Awesome! I have a five year old and he totally loves Kidslink. WE have about 200 kids on Wednesday nights with amazing staff. My daughter is 1 and I am very pleased with the nursery staff. Lots of goldfish and juice.
What's your favorite thing? The staff and people really want to minister to the community.
What would you change? I think we need to build closer relationships with the other churches in our community.
Can I wear jeans? absolutely

Church of the Highlands (Grant's Mill Campus)

Birmingham, AL

http://www.churchofthehighlands.com/welcome.html

Contemporary Praise and Worship

Relevant, funny, upbeat sermons

Childcare is awesome. Very secure. Babies/toddlers in one wing, 1-5 graders in their own praise and worship service. LOVE IT.

Fave thing - welcoming, open, friendly atmosphere.

Would change - not necessarily a bad thing - church is really new and is already busting at the seams. Sunday mornings can be really hectic with parking, crowds, lines to check kids into their classes, lack of seats in Worship Center.

Can I wear jeans? YES! People wear a variety of things. Very casual.

Mountain Valley Baptist Church
Montevallo, AL
www.mountainvalleychurch.net

We have contemporary worship that really focuses on the greatness of God and His love for us. The preaching is relevant and emphasizes the importance of God's Word in our lives. The pastor uses video clips and object lessons to help us identify with the sermon and apply it to our lives. We have friendly teachers and volunteers who love to teach children about God's love. We emphasize the safety of our children and all of our workers have been through a background check. My favorite thing about MVBC is the feeling that you're part of a family that really cares about you. The only thing I would change is too see more people experience it! Come as you are - no perfect people allowed!! You most definitely can wear jeans. God bless!

The Brook

We are a group of very genuine, real and loving Christ-followers. We use worship music that is modern, celebrating and worshiping God in a way that we pray is relevant and joyous. We use alot of humor, talk about real life and try to teach and share creatively using skits and videos and just different worship experiences from time to time. You can wear jeans or shorts. We don't care what you wear. We are sensitive to those who are at the beginning of their spiritual journey - seeking God but perhaps not believing in Christ yet. The phrase I think best describes us is "lacking in religiosity". We aren't different to be different, we just enjoy trying new things and are open to new ways of doing things. I love my church. Come check us out!

What's your favorite thing? Worship and family atmosphere. You really feel as though you "belong" when you are there.
What would you change? We are a growing church surrounded by homes, but I would love to see more families with preschool children.
Can I wear jeans? Absolutely, morning or night!

Red Mountain Church
Birmingham, AL

www.redmountainchurch.org

hymns set to new tunes. www.myspace.com/redmountainmusic

Sermons are biblical exposition that is extremely relevant to culture at large and the church in particular.

Safe, kind childcare. Children 3-9 participate in Godly Play curriculum during the sermon, with a goal of wonder and playful orthodoxy.

I love that it meets at 5p ;) Really, the community groups are true places of care and community.

I am not sure what I'd change.

You can most definitely wear jeans. And a grungy t-shirt. But you can still dress your kids in smocked dresses if you like that sort of thing.

Westwood Baptist Church
Alabaster, AL

Awesome music - contemporary with some traditional thrown in at times.

Excellent childcare and youth programs.

Pastor is terrific. Very down-to-earth. He is very real and will let you know that he is not perfect! His sermons speak right to me!

I love the music and the preaching, but it is great to get involved in a small group - this is where you really can grow and support each other.

The only thing I would change (which is probably true with many churches)is that I would like to see more people serving, helping, and getting involved.

Blue jeans - Yes! It's one of my favorites!

Church of the Advent (Episcopal)

Birmingham

www.adventbirmingham.org

Music: Traditional hymns, beautiful organ/choirs at 7:30, 9:00 and 11:00 services, awesome band with contemporary music at 5:00 service

Preaching/teaching is completely orthodox, Bible-based, [unlike much of the Episcopal church these days] Each week's sermon on radio and web

Childcare: Great nursery for 2 and under, fantastic Sunday School classes age 3 all the way through Sr. High

Favorite thing: the Spirit that flows throughout every aspect of the church, from worship, to music, to SS, small groups, literature, etc.

Thing I would change: that we would go under the authority of a Global South bishop.

Jeans: You can definitely wear jeans at 5:00, and while you could also wear them at any of the other services, you might feel out of place, without anyone else in jeans.
